Accelerated aging test
There was no accepted standard or test technique to measure the lifetime expectancy of bullet-resistant body armor.
Therefore DSM Dyneema developed an accelerated aging technique in which both Dyneema® fiber and Dyneema® UD (both Soft Ballistic and Hard Ballistic products) were exposed to high temperatures and relative humidity for a total of eight weeks. We used a scientific technique (Arrhenius equation) to relate the accelerated aging data to ambient aging. The study confirmed that Dyneema® UD shows high V50 performance retention upon eight weeks of accelerated aging.
