What's needed in the field for vehicle protection?

Through its unique strength/weight ratio, Dyneema® helps manufacturers of land, sea and airborn vehicles and their end users meet an ever-evolving number of military vehicle requirements.

Excellent payload capacity and fuel efficiency are critical - which means that vehicle design must be low-weight yet with a robust armor solution.

The 'add on armor' concept: Combat and tactical vehicles are being designed with are being designed with base armor and add-on armor to counter emerging threats, according to Long Term Armor Strategy (LTAS) requirements.

Weight: Add-on armor must be light enough for two soldiers to lift and add to the vehicle.

Flexibility: Armor solutions must be light enough to enable vehicles to add weight in the future - in the form of electronics gear and other equipment.

Cornering and rollover: Lighter armor helps ensure a low center of gravity to prevent vehicles rolling over and improve cornering.

Speed and agility: The vehicle's general agility and acceleration are improved through lighter and more effective armor.

Reducing wear and tear: Lighter, more effective armor means that components last longer, thus reducing maintenance costs and extending vehicle life.
